Information specific to the All-Weather
Why all-weather form needs to be different
We are often asked why we don't cover turf racing at Sandform. The answer is very straightforward - all-weather racing lends itself to the use of speed ratings as a form predictor.
Consider first the types of tracks: turf courses are both left handed and right handed, they go up and down hills and are subject to soft and hard patches of ground. On the other hand, all-weather courses are uniform, always left handed and tend to be built on a standard oval formation. The ground tends to be uniform and the going more predictable.
Then consider the horses which run on the all-weather: it is worth remembering always that turf form is no indicator of a horses ability on the sand. You need a proven all-weather horse in most cases, and these horses tend to run against each other more often, providing strong lines of form through many horses. On turf, many horses will meet only a few times, usually on different courses or distances each time.
Speed ratings combined with form reading/comments and strong draw biases are the reasons we concentrate on the all-weather. To be a successful punter you need to focus and have an edge in terms of identifying betting value - this is what we strive to achieve for our subscribers.
